Rebecca E. Spence

Download BioRebecca Spence is an attorney in the firm’s Natural Resources and Environmental Law and Real Estate Law practice groups and specializes in land use issues, water rights transactions, and water court litigation. Her client base ranges from individual property owners and business owners to ditch companies and other agricultural interests. In her real estate practice, Rebecca supports the firm’s broad book of clients ranging from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies in navigating real estate transactions, including commercial leasing, acquisitions and dispositions, title review, and other related contracts. Rebecca also has broad experience in corporate transactions and utilizes her experience as corporate counsel to tackle the unique needs of businesses of all shapes and sizes.
Rebecca earned her J.D. from the University of Denver’s Sturm College of Law, where she most notably interned with the Colorado Water Trust, National Young Farmers Coalition, and the Federal Highway Administration. During these internships, Rebecca focused on NEPA review, legislative initiatives for instream flow rights, and advocating for legislative support of agricultural internship programs. Prior to joining Messner Reeves, Rebecca spent time as Corporate Counsel for PanTheyrx, a biotech company based in Boulder, CO, and an associate at a boutique real estate and water rights firm in Loveland, CO.
Some of Rebecca’s recent achievements:
- Rebecca participated in the first Transatlantic University Collaboration in Climate Change and Energy Law funded by the European Union with universities located in Denmark and Norway. The universities worked together to research and present policy solutions for pressing issues related to climate change to members of the EU.
- Rebecca is a founding member of the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Blockchain for Sustainable Development, Inc. (B4SD). B4SD worked to create a place for collaboration for businesses utilizing blockchain in the environmental space and evaluated businesses’ sustainability efforts against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
