Jonathan S. Weilbacher
Associate
Jonathan Weilbacher is an attorney at Messner Reeves, where his practice focuses primarily on insurance defense litigation, personal injury, premises liability, property damage, and complex civil litigation, as well as corporate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and general business advisory services. As a member of the firm’s Insurance Defense and Business/Corporate Practice Groups, Jonathan represents insurance carriers, corporations, and business owners in a broad range of legal matters, providing strategic, practical, and results-driven counsel tailored to each client’s objectives.
Jonathan has extensive experience representing clients in first-party and third-party insurance disputes, automobile and trucking accidents, personal injury claims, premises liability matters, property damage disputes, uninsured and underinsured motorist claims, and other complex liability matters. His litigation practice encompasses all phases of dispute resolution, including pre-litigation investigations, discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediation, arbitration, and trial preparation. He regularly works with national insurance carriers and their insureds to evaluate liability and damages, develop effective defense strategies, mitigate exposure, and achieve favorable resolutions through negotiated settlements or litigation.
With experience handling matters for clients ranging from privately held businesses to Fortune 500 companies, Jonathan brings a strategic and analytical approach to litigation. He understands the importance of balancing aggressive legal advocacy with practical business considerations, including litigation costs, risk management, and long-term client relationships. His ability to assess complex factual and legal issues, anticipate potential challenges, and develop efficient litigation strategies allows him to provide effective representation in both routine and high-exposure disputes.
In addition to his litigation practice, Jonathan advises entrepreneurs, executives, investors, and businesses on corporate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate matters. His transactional experience includes business formation and structuring, debt and equity financing, acquisitions and dispositions, corporate governance, contract negotiation, and general business disputes. He works closely with business owners throughout the lifecycle of their companies, from initial formation and growth to strategic acquisitions, capital transactions, and eventual exits.
Jonathan also serves as a trusted legal advisor and outside general counsel to businesses seeking ongoing legal guidance. Drawing upon his experience in both litigation and corporate law, he assists clients in identifying legal risks, structuring transactions, navigating contractual relationships, and implementing strategies that align with their broader commercial objectives. His combined litigation and transactional background provides a valuable perspective, allowing him to anticipate potential disputes while helping businesses pursue sustainable growth.
Prior to joining Messner Reeves, Jonathan gained experience at Boston Consulting Group, where he served as in-house counsel supporting intellectual property and corporate advisory matters. His undergraduate background in business, combined with his experience as an entrepreneur and board member of startups, further informs his practical approach to legal representation. This firsthand understanding of business operations, financial considerations, and strategic decision-making enables him to approach legal challenges from both a legal and commercial perspective.
A graduate of San Diego State University and New England Law | Boston, Jonathan is committed to providing responsive, thoughtful, and effective legal representation. Whether defending insurers and corporations in complex litigation or advising business owners on significant transactions, he combines legal knowledge, business acumen, and a client-focused approach to help clients protect their interests, manage risk, and achieve their objectives.
