Benjamin Tietgen
Partner
Ben Tietgen focuses his practice on value-driven intellectual property portfolio management. His clients include artists, writers, musicians, bands, record labels, music and book publishers, industrial designers, builders, prolific inventors, and academic and research institutions. Various-sized companies, from start-ups to international businesses in a myriad of industries, seek his transactional IP legal expertise.
Ben advises clients on filing, pursuit, maintenance, and enforcement strategies for patents, trademarks, copyrights, publicity rights, trade secrets, licenses, and other IP contract issues. He is known for his keen perspective on all sides of major IP deals and disputes. From finding investors to partnering with vendors, he helps companies launch products to market without risking their commercial identities through unprotected IP. His clients also turn to him for advice on corporate formation issues, disputes between members, buyouts, and other related matters.
With over 20 years of experience in software development, advising technology and non-technology companies on their software issues, Ben has experienced the shifting landscape of software patents. He serves clients creating commercialized products across a broad range of high and low technologies and takes as much pride in securing them as in advising clients not to file.
As a musician and creator at heart, Ben is also passionate about his quickly growing entertainment law practice, which primarily consists of musicians and other artists, artist’s managers, and music and media publishers. He also leverages his expertise to help the non-profit sector with fiscal sponsorship arrangements from both the funding sponsor side and the funded project/501(c)3 side.
Residing in the Phoenix area for over 25 years, Ben is actively involved in his community and enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and engaging in creative pursuits like playing bass in rock bands and making NFTs with his kids.
