Partner
Beverly Rich is a partner in the Orange County office of Messner Reeves, where her practice focuses on litigation and artificial intelligence. She advises clients across sectors on AI and generative AI development and deployment, governance, data use and licensing, compliance and regulatory counseling, intellectual property and commercialization, and risk mitigation strategies.
Her practice spans advising on algorithmic accountability, employment and labor issues related to AI systems, and compliance involving algorithmic bias. Beverly also counsels on AI product liability, contracting and vendor risk management, cross-border data transfers under laws such as the EU AI Act and GDPR, and AI-related antitrust concerns. She assists clients in preparing for litigation involving AI-generated evidence, structuring board-level AI governance, and engaging in public policy and legislative developments in the U.S. and abroad. Beverly helps clients develop responsible AI frameworks, draft internal policies and ethics protocols, and navigate investigations involving emerging technologies.
Before joining the Messner Reeves team, she served as practice innovation counsel at a national law firm and as an assistant professor of entrepreneurship and strategy at the University of Utah. She conceptualized, built, and deployed proprietary AI and generative AI solutions for internal and client-facing applications in her previous legal role. As a professor at the University of Utah, she conducted original research on strategy, innovation, and law, specifically related to the economic impact of AI on the legal industry.
She received a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Political Science from Yale University and a Ph.D. in Management and Organization from the USC Marshall School of Business. She earned her juris doctorate from the USC Gould School of Law. She is licensed to practice in California.
Outside of her legal practice, she serves as an adjunct lecturer at the USC Gould School of Law, an advisory board member at Overture Law, an advisory board member at BarScore.AI, and a board member at Linda Vista Children’s Center.
