David Asser
Partner
David Asser is a partner in the Denver office of Messner Reeves, where his practice focuses on immigration law. Previously, David ran Asser Law Group for over 21 years.
Throughout his 27 years of practice, he has served many clients in complex immigration situations, including deportation matters, litigation, asylum, labor certifications, I-9 compliance, temporary visas, family-based immigration, and international mobility.
Prior to entering the legal profession and joining the Messner Reeves team, he
served as the Press Secretary and Spokesperson of the Justice Department of The Netherlands in The Hague and as an International Policy Advisor for the Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Service. In these roles, he was involved in numerous high-profile cases and evolving immigration issues in Europe.
Beyond his legal work on immigration issues, David has also published multiple articles on the issue of illegal immigration, asylum and refugee law, lectured nationwide at CLE conferences on Immigration Law, and served as an Associate Professor at California State University and Yavapai College teaching Immigration and Nationality Law.
David is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). He also served on the Congressional Committee of the Northern California AILA chapter and has provided pro bono services to the Immigration Hearing Project of the Executive Office of Immigration Review (EOIR).
David earned his J.D. from the Free University of Amsterdam Law School, where he focused on media and copyright law. He is licensed to practice in California as well as before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Before entering law school, David studied Film, Television, and Theatre at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in Los Angeles. Originally from Amsterdam, David developed multiple drama series for Dutch Networks, produced television shows, and played the starring role in the English language production of “Speed-The-Plow.”
