Maila D. Acoba

Maila Diwa Acoba is an Associate in the firm’s Silicon Valley office, where her practice focuses on litigation, insurance defense matters. 

She represents clients in a variety of civil matters, with experience in insurance defense, personal injury, motor vehicle liability, premises liability, and landlord-tenant disputes. Maila also provides legal services to the Filipino community in the United States in the areas of family law, contracts, real property, and other civil matters.

Maila began her legal career in the Philippines, serving as a criminal defense attorney with the Department of Justice for five years. She later became in-house counsel for a global non-profit broadcasting and media organization, advising on contracts, governance, employment, intellectual property, and litigation. In California, she has worked both as in-house counsel and in litigation practice, handling cases from intake through resolutions and representing clients in court hearings, deposition, mediations, and arbitrations.

Maila earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and her Juris Doctor from Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (University of the City of Manila), where she was a university scholar and on the Dean’s List throughout her studies. 

She is admitted to practice in California and the Philippines. She is a member of the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California (ADCN), the Filipino Bar Association of Northern California (FBANC), the National Filipino American Lawyers Association (NFALA), and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP).
