Laura Martinez has spent her entire career as a litigator representing individuals and corporations in a variety of areas ranging from insurance defense to commercial litigation (including real estate litigation, construction defect, contract disputes, premises liability, defamation – and the list goes on). In addition to her litigation practice, Laura handles alcohol beverage licensing matters. Laura’s litigation practice goes hand-in-hand with her licensing work. It is this experience and broad knowledge base that allows her to provide extraordinary guidance to clients.

Laura is a graduate of the University of Colorado where she obtained both her undergraduate degree (2002) and Juris Doctor degree (2005) and was on the Dean’s List. Prior to joining Messner & Reeves Laura had been a partner for five years in a mid-sized law firm. Laura has obtained significant victories on both the plaintiff and defense side. Laura obtained the 12th highest jury trial verdict awarded in Colorado in 2017 (currently being appealed to the Colorado Supreme Court) and achieved a no-pay settlement in a multiparty case in which plaintiff sought $17 million total and $1 million from her client. Laura has had many trial successes on both the plaintiff and defense side.

Laura serves on the board of the Colorado Defense Lawyer’s Association (“CDLA”) and is the CDLA’s diversity director, directed at supporting diversity in the legal profession (one of the least diverse professions). Laura was also appointed by Governor Polis’ office to serve as a 1st Judicial District Judicial Nominating Commissioner. In 2019 Laura was selected as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers (Super Lawyers recognizes no more than 2.5% of attorneys in each state as Rising Stars based upon peer recognition and professional achievements).

Laura’s’ professional memberships include the Colorado Defense Lawyer’s Association, the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association, the Colorado Women’s Bar Association (where she is an active member of the diversity and inclusion committee). She is also a member of Claims Litigation Management.

A Colorado native, Laura grew up in the Westwood neighborhood of Denver and the Belmar area of Lakewood. Outside of the office her free time is filled with her sons’ sporting events and keeping the family dogs from destroying the house.
