Trevor Gallaway
Associate
Trevor Gallaway is an associate in the Denver office of Messner Reeves, where his practice focuses exclusively on immigration law, including removal and deportation defense, and family-based petitions.
Also fluent in Spanish, Trevor brings extensive experience in immigration law matters, including representing detained asylum seekers in removal proceedings, and representing clients in all stages of litigation, including appeals before the Board of Immigration Appeals.
Prior to joining the Messner Reeves team, Trevor served as Assistant Chief Counsel at the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. While with the Department, in addition to extensive courtroom work, Trevor served on the Appellate Litigation Team, where he reviewed appeals and helped attorneys in the Denver and Salt Lake City Field Offices develop their legal arguments before the Board of Immigration Appeals. Trevor has also worked as an Attorney Advisor to immigration judges through the U.S. Attorney General’s Honors Program at the Executive Office for Immigration Review. In this role, Trevor worked closely with four immigration judges, drafting their decisions and advising the judges on unique aspects of immigration law, including immigration consequences of criminal convictions, Tier III Terrorist Organizations, and various forms of relief in immigration court. Trevor began his career as a Legal Fellow at the Immigration and Human Rights Clinic at the Center for Legal and Social Justice at St. Mary’s University School of Law, where he primarily represented detained asylum seekers in South Texas.
He’s active in the local legal community, serving as a member of the immigration section of the San Antonio Bar Association and the immigration section of the Colorado Bar Association. He’s also a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association Colorado Chapter and a member of their Colorado Chapter Asylum Committee. Trevor has provided various trainings to pro bono groups and has published a journal article discussing the importance of honoring the confidentiality provisions contained in the Violence Against Women Act.
Trevor received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Oklahoma and earned his Juris Doctorate from St. Mary’s University School of Law. He’s currently licensed to practice in Texas.
Outside of his legal work, Trevor enjoys walking with his wife and his dog as well as playing hockey.
While I owned my own practice, I contracted with Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service in San Antonio to provide low bono support to asylum seekers by helping them complete and file their asylum applications with the immigration courts.
I have also offered several trainings to LIRS and their staff.
