Founded in the 1920s, the John M. Langston Bar Association’s mission is to “empower leadership, advance the professional development of its membership, and promote the administration of justice in the Black community and the community at large.”

The Association is named in honor of John Mercer Langston, one of the first African Americans to hold an elective office following the Civil War, first as the Brownhelm, Ohio Township Clerk in 1855 and later as a U.S. Representative of the state of Virginia. He is also credited for his work helping to establish the Howard University School of Law.

Messner Reeves is proud to support the Langston Bar Association’s ongoing efforts and extremely honored to have one of our Associates chosen as the 2024 Treasurer.

Promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in our firm and the legal community at large is a particular priority for Messner Reeves. We firmly believe that individuality and diversity bring valuable perspectives which lead to innovative and effective solutions for our clients.
